For the masses consumed by the dramatic storyline, the Hardy vs. Hardy angle is personal, but for Gil Hardy, he knows it’s just business, sort of.

Brothers Matt and Jeff Hardy battle in one of the marquee match-ups at WWE’s WrestleMania 25 on Sunday, April 5 at Reliant Stadium, and their dad, Gil, will be watching.

‘Our dad is our biggest fan, and he would always say, `When are you on SmackDown or when are you on Raw?’ We’d give him a round about time so he could make sure to sit down and watch it.”

Then came the brother vs. brother angle. So Matt, 34, addressed it with his father.

”Well, don’t worry dad,” Matt said, “Tonight, some of the things I’m going to say are going to be a little aggressive, a little stiff, and he’s like oh, yeah, no problem, no problem.

‘When I did that one promo where I came out, and at the very end I held up the dog collar, I talked to my dad the next day and said, `Did you watch SmackDown last night?’ He said, ‘Yeah, I almost wished I didn’t even watch that %$#@.’ It put me in a bad mood,’ but then he said he should know better, and he’s been around it a long time, and he knows what the deal is. He’s cool. He’s rolling with it and enjoying it.”

The Hardys love their dad, and their dad loves them, and they all loved the dog.

Matt said: “This is one thing Jeff and I said. Jack, which is Jeff’s beloved dog who died in the house fire [at Jeff's home], actually became a character in the story, and now he’s famous almost, and that’s one thing Jeff really digs. Jeff’s got all these cool pictures of Jack. Now everyone knows Jack and remembers Jack.”

Gil Hardy is a good father, and the Hardys were good boys and now better men, especially Matt. They get that from their father.

”Our dad is not a TV guy,” Matt said. “Our dad is so old school. He still goes to bed at 9 or 10, if he’s not doing anything, and he’s up at 6 a.m. working. If he doesn’t have any work to do, he’ll dump his garbage just so he can pick it up again. He feels like he has to be a man’s man and work.”

Matt and Jeff also work and work hard. Debuting in WWE in 1998, The Hardy Boyz are seven-time tag team champions. They also won singles gold.

Matt captured the U.S. title, WWE’s ECW belt, the European title, Cruiserweight championship and Hardcore belt. He had a solid run as Version-I, proving he can also handle the singles spot and loves using the Twist of Fate.

Little brother, Jeff, 31, held the WWE title, Intercontinental belt, European belt, Light Heavyweight championship and Hardcore title. A flyer, he loves using the Swanton Bomb.

Matt Hardy is the consummate professional in and out of the ring. He is a talented performer — singles and tag team — with the desire and passion reminiscent of those who have walked that aisle, striving for greatness. He carries himself well on the mic and dresses the part when dealing with other pockets of the company. Hardy also has a smart mind for the business. He appreciates fans. He gets it.

Growing up, Matt Hardy wanted to wrestle. As a teenager, Matt Hardy wanted to wrestle. As an adult, Matt Hardy is wrestling and loving nearly every minute of it. Prior to WWE, Hardy formulated his own wrestling group – OMEGA – leading brother Jeff, Gregory Helms, Joey Mercury and Shannon Moore.

In WWE, they worked together and now this.

”I’m really excited,” Matt said. “It’s been real cool to get to work against Jeff, especially on this level. They better try to hold us back as much as they can because you put us out there with so much time, and nobody is going to touch us.
