India wins 2nd Test by 10 wickets, clinches series 2-0 against Bangladesh
India’s Zaheer Khan claimed seven wickets and Bangladesh lost its final seven batsmen for just 22 runs as the visitors claimed a 10-wicket victory Wednesday in the second and final Test.
Trailing by 311 runs on first innings, Bangladesh started the day at 228-3 in its second innings and with a chance to make a fight of the Test, but instead crumbled in embarrassing fashion to be all out for 312.
Having fallen just short of an innings victory, India needed just two byes on the second ball of its second innings to claim victory and a 2-0 series sweep.
Bangladesh’s Mohammad Ashraful and nighwatchman Shahadat Hossain actually began Day 4 in good fashion, batting through the first hour and taking the score to 290-3 before the collapse began.
Hossain (40) was the first man to go for the day, caught by substitute Amit Mishra – who had earlier dropped an easy chance in the deep – at long-on off Harbhajan Singh.
Ashraful then went in the next over, edging a Pragyan Ohja delivery to wicketkeeper Mahendra Singh Dhoni.
Ohja claimed his second wicket when Shakib Al Hasan pulled a delivery to Gautam Gambhir at square leg.
Man-of-the-match Khan then set about mopping up the Bangladesh innings to meek resistance. Raqibul Hasan shouldered arms to a delivery and was clean bowled, Mammudullah edged a shot which a diving Murali Vijay took at second slip, and Shafiul Islam was bowled first ball.
On the third ball after lunch, Khan claimed the final wicket – his 10th of the match – by bowling Rubel Hossain.
