IFA Shield: Our Inexperience Showed – Subrata Bhattacharya
Chirag United coach Subrata Bhattacharya believes that his side should have won the semi-finals against Mohun Bagan but their inexperience showed up…
The Green and Maroons were down to ten men when Chidi Edeh was sent-off in the ninth minute for a head butt on Eduardo. Chirag United failed to take advantage and never really threatened Mohun Bagan in the next 110 minutes.
“Mohun Bagan were with 10 players but these things happen in football. We played better than them. People may say that they didn’t have Barreto and Ishfaq but we also missed five of our regular players.
“We created chances but our inexperience was the reason as we couldn’t finish them. We lost on tie-breaker where it is anybody’s game,” said Bhattacharya.
The former Mohun Bagan defender was disgusted with the opposition players’ antics towards the end of the game where they apparently went too easily on the ground.
“Mohun Bagan players were spoiling the game and feigning injuries. It’s unfortunate. If they resort to such tactics against Chirag, I am not sure what they shall do against the big teams.”
Bhattacharya was vocal about his dislike for the astro-turf and added that for the I-League, the games mustn’t be played at Salt Lake Stadium.
“This is a fourth grade astro-turf. For the I-League, the matches must be played elsewhere,” he concluded.
